We had a wonderful time on our holidays at Qualicum beach, quite relaxing even if we did have to bring the kids. Was great spending time with the family and with Ben and Tiff and Clara and Pippa, and it was great to have so many people around to share all the work of cooking and dishes and childminding. I even got to have a couple of naps! Thanks everybody! Ollie had a ball, he went "swimming" in the ocean and collected rocks and shells and had a great time building sandcastles with Clara. We made a couple of expeditions too, including a farm for children where Ollie got to collect eggs, milk a goat, look at all kinds of farm animals, and refused to ride a pony. He would have much rathered a ride on a tractor, unfortunately they didn't have one.
Sam continues to babble away and cruise around the living room hanging onto furniture. He's been trying all kinds of grownup food too, peas and carrots and fish and rice and pizza and chicken and lots of fruit. Still has a hard time with the chicken, he'll chew on a piece for what seems like half an hour, but we're working on it. I have finally updated all his photos from the past year so there is a bunch of new stuff to look at under his link to the right. It took me quite a few days working sporadically, and I will start working on Ollie's tonight so check back in a few days for his updated photos.
I decided to give up the battle of the bottle with Sam and let him nurse in the evening before he goes to bed, in the interest of getting a better night's sleep out of him. That plus ignoring him a couple of times when he's cried really seems to have done the trick, he's sleeping much better now, even slept the night through the night before last. Fingers crossed for continued luck. He knows how to drink from the sippy cup, and will have a few slurps, but never finishes a whole bottle. He just seems to lose interest after a minute or so. Sometimes if we're out in the stroller he'll have the whole thing, but never at home, too many distractions I guess.
I've checked with SFU daycare about Sam's status and the news is horrible. We're 8th on the list and the admissions lady really doesn't see us getting in for November, short of some kind of miracle and everyone ahead of us declining a position. I don't understand how this could happen, we signed up before he was born, and now I'm kicking myself for not signing up even earlier. I'm sure we can find something else in the meantime, even a nanny if we have too, but its likely to cost a great deal and more than anything else is terrribly disappointing because we love the SFU daycare and really wanted Sam to go there.
