The weekend before last was the most disappointing ever. Adrian ran into our neighbours (who are filmakers) in the garage on the Friday night, and they said that they had Raffi in their house RIGHT AT THAT VERY MOMENT (because they were working on a project with him), and that they could bring him over sometime during the weekend to meet the kids. Raffi himself - IN OUR HOUSE. Ollie is a huge fan, but sadly I think I am an even huger fan. I was so excited I could hardly contain myself. We had to clean the living room out of all the commercial, plasticky, marketed-directly-to-kids toys and put out only all the organic-y wooden ones. God forbid Raffi should think we were bad parents in any kind of way. All to no avail however, they never did show up, I'm beginning to wonder if it was all some cruel trick. I bet their conversation went something like this: "those neighbours with the kids are the biggest losers, I bet you if we tell them that we know Raffi they will be more excited than if we told them we knew Robert Deniro". And its true.
Other than that it just feels like we are running a very small hospital here. I finally broke down on the big Raffi-less weekend and took sam to the doctor for his cough, which had never really gone away after his bronchitis in December and had gotten a bit worse since his last cold the week before. He was really good for the doctor and let her listen to his lungs forever, it was difficult to tell if there really was anything in there, but she did discover an incipient ear infection, for which we have just finished a round of antibiotics. Good thing we caught that early. We also have a note to go get another chest x-ray at the children's hospital, but I am really loathe to do that again because it is such an ordeal for Sam. He was taking the same antibiotics for the ear infection as he did for the bronchitis, so if the bronchitis was recurring the drugs would clear it up anyway and why bother with the whole nasty x-ray experience? We have to go back and check the ear ot agin with the doctor anyway, so we'll see what she says then. The cough seems to have cleared up at any rate.
And since Sam is healthy, now Ollie is ill. He started running a fever Friday night and it wouldn't quit til this morning, no matter how much Tylenol we stuffed in him. He pretty much spent the whole weekend either in bed or lying listlessly on the sofa. he's got a stuffy nose so we figure its just a cold, but its a doozy.
Sam has finally decided to add some words to his vocabulary, besides mama and dada. He is working on 'up', and clearly says 'more' (all the time), and was pointing at 'buh' out the window (the feeder is finally attracting lots of sparrows, chickadees and juncos).

the saddest thing? I was as (if not more??) excited as you about a possible Raffi visit. Sigh. Need to get out more?
